Once upon a time all one needed to do was to tell teachers what you had for sale

Many years ago my colleagues and I launched a company which developed and sold materials for dyscalculic students – that is to say those who found maths a near incomprehensible subject but who were often of above average intelligence and had above average ability in most other subjects.

Because we had few competitors, and we knew what we were talking about, our products and materials sold well.

But times change, of course, and as they change so advertising has to move with the changing times.

And so over time others have seen how well we were doing in the market and they have naturally taken us on as competitors.

Of course, we could have stayed in our comfort zone, secure in the notion that our materials worked well, and there were many schools that were committed to buying from us. But our feeling was that if we did that we would eventually be overtaken by the competition.

So across the years we have experimented, evolving and developing ideas, providing new materials, and above all seeking to stay ahead of the game.

I see the same thing happening in all the other subject areas we look at and so, in our areas of work, we have continued to develop and evolve.

But this can be hard, because each of us knows our own business so well that it is difficult to think up improvements, developments and new approaches.  Also there is always a reluctance to change. After all, if it has worked ok until now, why should one change?

I think this is a dangerous attitude because schooling is changing all the time, and this is why, if you would like us to have a look at your current advertising, we will do this and supply you with a written report on how we would look at changing what you do in order to meet the new educational climate.

All you have to do is supply us with a copy of a recent advertisement and a link to your website, and we’ll come up with some ideas that you may want to use.  This is a completely free service which aims to show you that we can come up with ideas you may well find interesting.

If you would like to put us to the test please just email a copy of a recent advert, along with a link to your website and a note saying that you would like us to comment on your advertising, and we will send you back a written report.  No cost, no obligation.

Just email Stephen@schools.co.uk  And if you have any questions you can call us on 01604 880 927.
